Dogs - Bichon Frise - Right 4 You?

I'm on my fourth Bichon and I love each one a little more than the last. Now at 65 years old I appreciate Keke my five month old little female Bichon more than ever. She can be a little stinker at times but when she looks at you with those big black eyes she make your heart melt. Keke's just chewing on an ice cube which she really loves. I spend most of my time at home and she doesn't let me out of her site. When we go out she is always with us. Keke spends her nights in a kennel beside our bed. My favourite time is in the morning when she is allowed to come into our bed for about fifteen minutes. She is so much fun with her nibbling on our fingers and laying on her back wanting us to rub her tummy. Sounds like you are a true Bichon Frise lover :) I know after our first, we too were smitten. Today we have 3 of our own and foster for Bichon Rescue (www.bichonrescue.org), a non-profit organization that has saved the lives of many thousands of bichons over the last twenty years.

I am a bit concerned about your Bichon and the possibility of separation anxiety. Spending time with our beloved fluffkids is wonderful, and I do it myself. However, they also need to learn that they can be alone for periods of time and be okay.

There is a happy medium there somewhere :) Trust me, I don't like to see Bichons in homes where everyone is off at work for 9-15 hours a day. Bichon Rescue takes in far too many such fluffs who have failed to thrive because of extended isolation time. And often, they are an emotional mess.

However, the other end of the spectrum is also true. Bichons who have never been trained to be alone for periods of time are equally distraught from serious separation anxiety .. and are miserable because of it.

Just a suggestion based in love for these very special fluffy white angels. I've seen so much neglect ... and so much over-bonding, both of which cause serious problems.

Thank you for loving your bichon. I wish more people were as devoted.

Note; My three 'chons are here on the bed with us as I process early morning email. I too love this time of tummy rubs and quiet smooches :)))
